"Patterns" by Kristiina Ehin, recommended by The Unnamed Press

It's one more time that I must give a shout-out to the excellent folks at Electric Literature.   Really, this site is a jewel.
Another fantastic short story:  "Patterns" by Kristiina Ehin.  It has the depth of a parable-- there's a refreshing absence of psychology or any attempt to explain the heroine's mysterious propensity for destroying her many husbands.

But enough of what I think-- you should go read this wonderful writer.   I will be reading this story again and again.

"Aliens in the Prime of Their Lives" recommended by Deborah Eisenberg

If you're a short fiction lover, you may already be following Electric Literature.  And if you are not, you are missing many great short stories.  And yes, it is free-- as are many great literary magazines on the web.)

The most recent one is by Brad Watson -- and I've read it twice already. Another trademark of Electric literature is that writers introduce other writers-- and this one came via Deborah Eisenberg, another of my literary idols.  It's one of those stories that combines humor and longing, and illusions and disappointment.  The narrator's fantasy -- such a small one, too -- broke my heart.

Find it here.  "Aliens in the Prime of Their Lives" recommended by Deborah Eisenberg:
