Every one in a while, I heard about a new idea that's good enough to share. A wonderful writer himself, Jim Breslin (check out his story collection on Amazon) has created West Chester Story Slam. It's a celebration of true storytelling-- a la Garrison Keiller or Spaulding Gray (whom I still miss) -- and it's simple. You can read the rules here: Rules « West Chester Story Slam:
Basically, Jim gets a talented group of story-tellers together for a "contest" although the site informs me that the contest part isn't all that serious. It's the listening part that sounds fun. Story-tellers have 5 minutes or so to captivate their audience-- and the audience decides who has done the best job. As I write this, the evening's free, except for the drinks.
